Features
The display of 1201PN measures 12.1 inches with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. It also has LED backlights. It employs a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and a NVidia Ion Graphics processor. The operating system used in 1201PN is the 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. It employs a 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM and this can be upgraded to a maximum of 4 GB. It also has a 250 GB hard drive and a 512 MB VRAM. There are 3 USB 2.0 ports, audio in and out ports, an Ethernet RJ-45 interface, a VGA port and an HDMI port. It also has an expandable 2 in 1memory card reader. It has an integrated webcam and supports Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. it uses a standard lithium ion battery.
Design
The 1201 PN measures 11.54×8.11×1.3 inches in dimension and weighs 3.22 pounds. It resembles the 1201 N in design. The glossy plastic lid that attracts finger prints is available in black, red and silver colors. There are some chrome accents on the power button, touch pad button and the mouse bar.
The display of 1201PN measures 12.1 inches with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. It also has LED backlights. There is a 0.3 megapixel webcam that allows you to capture pictures and videos and it is also used for video conferencing. It has an acceptable frame rate and an average image quality.
The VGA port, AC charger jack, HDMI port and an USB port are on the left side while the other 2 USB ports, headphone jack, microphone jack, Ethernet port, Kensington Lock slot and the SD card slot are on the right side. The edges of the 1201PN have horizontal grooved lines that look good.
The keyboard may look cramped in the beginning but it is the most comfortable keyboard that is provided with a netbook. It is of Chiclet style with raised edges. The multi touch enabled touch pad responds well to the gestures made by the fingers.
Performance
The HDMI port is more useful in the 1201PN as it can produce a smooth playback of the 1080 pixel high definition videos on an external device. The Adobe Flash v10.1 provides excellent streaming video playback. Moreover, 1201PN is a netbook that uses the Windows 7 Home Premium with many other netbooks offering the Windows 7 Starter. This is an added improvement. It is the first netbook ever to utilize the Nvidia Ion graphics. The performance of the 1201PN is better then its predecessor but it is little slow.The YouTube video playback performance is smooth until there is an intervention which causes excessive frame drops. The battery performance is better than the 1201N. A 6 cell battery gives a life of 3 hours and 57 minutes.
