FUJIFILM has announced the new FujiFilm FinePix X100 High-Grade Compact Digital Camera that features an APS-C CMOS sensor, a Fujinon 23mm fixed focal length lens and a newly developed Hybrid Viewfinder, due for commercial release in early 2011.

Tata Docomo and Alcatel Launches ‘One-Touch-Net-Phone’ – GSM QWERTY Phone in India @ Rs. 5,499

Tata Docomo in association with a leading telecom equipment manufacturer Alcatel, today announced the launch of their first co-branded GSM Mobile Phone in India named ‘One-Touch-Net-Phone’ which features full QWERTY keypad and offers one-touch access to Tata Docomo’s ‘Dive-in’ portal and host of Yahoo! services.

To be available in White/Lavender and Black/Silver colors the new Tata Docomo and Alcatel co-branded GSM mobile phone features a full QWERTY keypad and a large optical trackball and includes 80MB of internal memory and supports microSD memory card for expandable memory.


Though no details are available on its screen size but judging from its price and the similar style QWERTY phones currently available in market it seems to have 2.0-inch or 2.4-inch QVGA display with at least 256K color resolution.

It also features 2.0 megapixel camera with video recording capability, integrated FM radio with RDS, MP3 media player and stereo Bluetooth v2.1+A2DP wireless connectivity option. The handset also features WAP / xHTML 2.0 for internet access but does not appear to includes GRPS, EDGE or WiFi connectivity.

Apple iPhone 4 CDMA Version Coming On January 2011

Verizon iPhone 4 Coming Next Year

This week Apple organized a special event in San Francisco on 1st  September. Thousands of iPhone fans were expecting that the Cupertino-based firm would certainly make announcement on the release date of iPhone on Verizon  during the event.  But unfortunately Apple CEO Steve Jobs just remained silent on this issue. Perhaps Apple has no plan to release the handset this year.  Speculation is it may be available in the market in early 2011, that means next year.

Experts say this delay may be due to the reception problem of iPhone 4 which went on sale from 24th June. Since this problem hasn’t been solved yet, therefore Apple’s decision to postpone the launch of its upcoming iPhone 4 on Verizon seems justified. Similarly there was no mention regarding the white iPhone 4 which is expected to be released at the end of this year.

As per the industry news Verizon is doing quite good business selling Android-powered devices. So, at present they are in no hurry to start with iPhone on its network.

One Touch Net Phone launched by Tata Docomo

Tata Docomo which is the GSM Mobile Service from Tata Teleservices has recently made an announcement about the launch of its first co branded handset called One Touch Net Phone from Alcatel. This mobile phone will be fully integrated with the new EDGE Mobile services by Tata Docomo.

The One Touch Net Phone will come equipped with QWERTY keypad and will feature an ergonomic design. There is 2.4 inches of display in the handset that offers resolution count of 240 X 320 pixels. The 2 MP camera in the phone comes loaded with digital zoom so that you can capture good quality images.

The One Touch Net Phone physically measures 111 X 58.2 X 13.9mm in size with weight of 102 grams and is available in colour options of White & Lavender and Black & Silver.

3G Network in Malawi rolled out by Bharti Airtel

In order to expand its business in the fast growing mobile phone market of Africa, the Malawi unit of Bharti Airtel has made an announcement about the rolling out of its 3G network which will allow the users to enjoy video transmission and high speed internet access. Bharti Airtel thus now have its mobile operations in the 15 African countries after it get into a $9 billion deal with Zain of Kuwait this year.  With its Zain deal and expanding operations, Bharti is able to give a tough challenge to the MTN Group which is a dominant player in the continent.

The Zain Malawi, Bharti Unit is the biggest mobile phone operator in the entire southern African nation. An amount of $100 million is being planned to be spend by Bharti in the country over the next 3 years for the network expansion. Bharti has also made plans for the expansion of its business in the countries like Nigeria, Uganda and others.

Facebook and INQ Working on 2 Smartphone

The recent reports stated that Facebook and INQ Mobile Ltd are working together in order to create 2 Smartphone devices which might have the tie up for network with AT&T. These upcoming handsets would come loaded with the services of the social networking site. In the first half of the year 2011, these handsets will be unveiled in Europe, whereas in the second half of 2011 they will be launched in US.

The reports also stated that AT&T has not yet made a deal as to whether it will be a network carrier for the Facebook Smartphone or not. Facebook did not commented about any of its plans but it stated that it will continue to work with INQ which has earlier also sell the handsets that comes with feature of Facebook along with the other companies.

INQ also denied making any comments on the plans of these latest smartphones which are to be launched by Facebook.

Government Rules on Blackberry met by Tata Teleservices and Bharti Airtel

Tata Teleservices and Bharti Airtel has recently conveyed to the government of the country that their networks have been upgraded so as to allow the security agencies to monitor the messages which are sent through the Blackberry devices.

The compliance reports has been sent by Airtel and Tata Teleservices to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) which states that they have carried out with the necessary upgradation.
60 days of time period is given to Blackberry makers, Research in Motion by the India, last month for providing lawful access of its data by the security agencies. As per the Indian Law, the telecom operators must make sure that the security agencies can get all the access to the services which are carried on their networks.

The services of Blackberry are offered in India through various mobile phone operators like Tata Teleservices, Airtel and others and the Canadian company wants to be as co-operative as possible with the Government of the country for ensuring its security needs.

Weston Forays in the Indian mobile phone market

The increasing mobile phone market of India is attracting large number of companies to make an investment and the recent addition to the list is the consumer electronics firm called Weston which has made an announcement about its foray in the mobile market with the launch of 7 models having price range between Rs.1600 and Rs.3500

Weston has made a statement that the company plans to get the sales of around Rs.250 crore in the next one year from its latest venture. It was also stated by Weston that they plan to set up a new facility for the manufacturing of mobile phones at Dehradun and by next year this facility is expected to become operational.

Initially Weston will launch its handsets in the north and the eastern states of the country and then will slowly launch them in the other parts of the country. The Senior Vice President and Business Head of Weston Mobiles, Pankaj Sharma stated that “Our vision is to introduce the most affordable handsets in India keeping in mind the features to price ratio.”

When the original iPhone first launched back in 2007 there was no official way to get third party applications onto the device. The only way to do such a thing was to break just about every rule in the book and jailbreak the device. Going this route gave consumers access to an expansive line up of applications developed specificially for the phone rendering it far more useful than when it originally launched.

However, when 2008 rolled around with the iPhone 3G, Apple introduced to the world the App Store. This new virtual mobile application retail outlet gave consumers official access to both paid for and free applications. Over the years the App Store has seen immense growth with over 6.5 billion downloads and over 250,000 appliactions available on the market to date.

Up until now, Apple has been pretty strict about which applications actually make it into the App Store. In fact, every one of those 250,000+ apps were subject to Apple’s intensive approval process. Due to these strict guidelines, many applications were denied access to the store if they even remotely replicated a feature already in the phone. Google Voice applications, for example, were originally allowed onto the market and then quickly pulled for duplicating a service already found within the iPhone.

India, which along with several other countries has expressed concerns that BlackBerry services could be used to stir political or social instability, had threatened RIM with a ban if it were denied access to data.

A spokeswoman for RIM, which has never commented on whether the Indian government has access to BlackBerry services, was not immediately available for comment.

The Indian interior ministry said on Aug. 30 that the Canadian firm had offered several ways to allow authorities to monitor BlackBerry communications. The government said it would check their feasibility over the next 60 days.

Saudi Arabia, fretful over services such as online pornography, has reached a deal with RIM on access to the BlackBerry Messenger instant messaging service, a consumer product that operates outside of the secure corporate domain, according to government sources.

Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates have raised similar concerns, with the UAE setting an Oct. 11 deadline for RIM.

Apple To Acquire Polar Rose Face Recognition Firm

Apple has acquired Polar Rose, a Swedish company that makes facial recognition software that can be used in the cloud, on a computer or on iPhone and Android smartphones.

Norwegian Mac site Mac1 reported the acquisition on Monday, according to a translation of the site via Google Translate. Financial details were not disclosed. Apple did not respond to a request for comment.

Polar Rose has developed  technology that uses complex algorithms to identify photos, so they can be linked to other information. The company focuses on facial recognition, making the technology particularly useful in social networks. For example, the technology could be used to identify and tag people in a group photo.

What Apple has planned for the Polar Rose technology is not known. The company does not comment on future product plans. However, Apple uses facial recognition technology in iPhoto to help users organize their photos based on particular people.
